Major Beliefs

  • The Muslims believe that there is only one God.
  • Allah is the name of God in Arabic.
  • Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca that all Muslims must take to honor the trials that Abraham took.
  • Some other names for Allah is: The Gracious, The Merciful, The Beneficent, The Creator, The All-Knowing, The All-Wise, The Lord of the Universe, and others.
  • They believe Allah is the Creator of all human beings.
  • They believe that satan was also created to test mankind.
  • The Koran is the sacred book of Islamic teachings.
  • They celebrate New Year, Ashura, Mawlid which is Muhammads Birthday, Ramadan, Id Al-fitr is the end of Ramadan, Id Al-adha follows Hajj. The dates are based on the lunar calender.
  • Muslims believe that every human will be resurrected from their grave after the end of the world.
  • They believe that there is a day of judgement which is when Allah judges you. If you sinned a lot you go to hell, if not you go to heaven.
  • Muslims preach about only one god and one god only. They believe that he is the only creator of the universe.
  • Muslims believe in angels.
  • The 5 Pillars of Islam is there is no other God besides Allah, Prayer (before sunrise, after the sun begins to decline, mid-afternoon, just after the sunset, and night), charity, fasting, and pilgrimage.

Lifestyle Norms

  • Women are expected to cover their body from head to toe.
  • The minimum dress requirement for men is that they must cover the area from their navel to their knees.
  • Men are forbidden from wearing gold jewelry, garments made of silk, and anything that has been dyed red or yellow from saffron.
  • Modest clothing can't be tight to where you can see the shape of their body, or sheer enough to show whats under their clothing.

  • Discrimination against Muslims increased after 9/11.

Human Rights Violations

  • Women are punished for not wearing proper Islamic dress.
  • In several places such as Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates execution is legal. Some stone them to death.

  • 1.5 billion in the world(about 23% of the world)
  • Most followers are in north Africa, west Asia, and southern Asia.
  • 6 millions US followers, and is the fastest growing religion in America.

  • South Park was blocked for pieces referring to Muhammad because of threats to the producers.
  • Theo Van Gogh was murdered for his expressed ideas.

  • Islamic terrorism is terrorism committed by muslims.
